Spalding glove

DescriptionLight brown left-handed fielder's glove with four finger stalls and a thumb stall. The finger stalls are connected by a lace that runs through the tops of the stalls. The finger stalls and thumb stall are connected by three strips of leather, two horizontal and one vertical, which make up the webbing. The glove has a wrist strap with a crisscross lace and holes for size adjustment. The wrist strap also has a sewn blue and yellow "Spalding" label. At the base of the thumb stall is a sewn blue and yellow "S." On the finger stall is "Spalding." The palm side also had stamps but they are no longer visible due to the flaking of the leather and vinyl.

Bio/Historical NoteWith this old childhood glove serving as her inspiration, artist Cassie McFarland created the winning design for the front of the U.S. Mint's first-ever curved coins. The coins, first issued on March 27, commemorate the 75th anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. McFarland's design was selected from nearly 200 submissions.
