The Exile! cartoon

Datebetween 1945 and 1947
DescriptionA matted pencil-drawn cartoon by artist Little Willy King, probably drawn between 1945 and 1947 based on the contents of the cartoon. This cartoon depicts the inside of a ballpark with the back of an umpire, Deever, pointing up towards a head hovering above the press box. The accompanying caption reads, "Git off dat roof an' outta da park - yer fined twenny-five bucks!" Above the stands, is Wirt Gammon, with his tie flying and his fist raised with the caption, "Ya blankety-blank *@--X--@*." To the right of the umpire is Bert Niehoff with the caption, "Jeez - th' boss told me not ta use such language." The crowd is booing the umpire, indicated by the phrases "Kill De Ump" and "Hang Danny" written across the stands. The title of the cartoon is at the bottom and the artist's signature is in the left hand corner. The verso (not shown) is blank.
Bio/Historical NoteBert Niehoff managed the Chattanooga Lookouts between 1945 and 1947.
