The Retirement of Connie Mack cartoon

Date1950
DescriptionA matted pencil-drawn cartoon by artist Little Willy King dated 1950. Manager Bucky Harris is depicted in the lower left quadrant, wearing a Washington Senators uniform. He is crying and the caption reads, "S'Long Connie." Explanatory text next to this image reads, "The retirement of Connie Mack leaves Clark Griffith to battle the young baseball moguls alone!" The rest of the cartoon is a collage showing different scenarios that Griffith will need to handle. In the upper left quadrant shows a political scene feature Eisenhower and Dewey. The upper right quadrant depicts a woman with the caption, "Those lawyers just don't know that nice traffic officer who lets me double park" and the explanatory text, "Mixed reaction greeted the report of the Chattanooga Bar Association on our police!" In the lower right quadrant Joe Engel's head is floating with the caption, "Oh man...what this fellow could do with a double-header." Below him is a drawing of the stands and the accompanying text, "Joe Engel will see how a winning team will pack the ball park when Billy Graham preaches at the stadium this afternoon." The lower right corner is signed by the artist. The verso (not shown) is blank.
