Grover Cleveland Alexander photograph

Date1930
DescriptionA black-and-white full-length action photograph of Grover Cleveland Alexander. Facing the camera, Alexander wears a Dallas Steers uniform. Alexander stands on his left leg, with only the toe of his back right shoe touching the ground. He holds his right arm across his body chest height, with his gloved left hand down by his side. Alexander looks forward to a point in the distance and to the left of the camera. Captured on the field, an unoccupied stadium is visible in the background. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), a caption, typed in black ink, reads, "ALEXANDER SIGNS WITH THE DALLAS STEERS Grover Cleveland Alexander, Veteran National League pitcher who signed with the Dallas Club in the Texas League at a salary said to be $1,700 a month, the largest ever paid a player in the league. He is snapped as he took his first -- out in a Steer uniform. He said he felt great and expected -- win plenty of games for Dallas. 6/25/30."
