Date1950
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Tris Speaker seated alongside Bill Rives. Speaker, facing the camera, wears a suit, tie, and pocket square. Speaker, shown from the knees up, clasps his left hand over his right while resting his forearms on his legs. Rives rests his right forearm on his right leg to lean forward to be able to speak with Speaker. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), is a newspaper clipping of the published photograph and accompanying caption that reads, "DIAMOND GREAT- Bill Rives, left. chairman of Texas Sports Writers Association, talks with Tris Speaker at Dallas after group announced Speaker's election as the first athlete to Texas' Sports Hall of Fame. Speaker, famous major league baseball star, now is employed by the Cleveland Indians, club with which he finished his playing career many years ago."
