DescriptionA black-and-white full-length photograph of Charles Comiskey sitting in a chair, leaning forward, in conversation. Comiskey, facing the camera, wears a three piece suit and bow tie. Leaning forward, Comiskey rests his right arm on the arm of the chair, and his left arm on his left leg. Comiskey holds a document in his left hand. Turning his head to his right, Comiskey directs his gaze to a point to his immediate right. A partially cropped figure can be seen to the left of Comiskey. Handwritten on the surface of the photograph, in black ink, to the right of the chair, is the phrase, "C. R R 792." Pasted on the reverse (not shown), is a caption typed in black ink, that reads, "OLD ROMAN" SMASHED PENNANT CHASING TO CLEAN UP BASEBALL. (...)is oft-time champions but one game behin(...) (...)eague leading Cleveland Club, Charles A. (...)skey ,owner of the Chicago White Sox, smashed pennant chasing machine when he suspended (...) members of the team indicted by the Cook County Grand Jury in connection with the baseball gambling scandal. The "Old Roman" has owned the White Sox since the inception of the American League. In his note suspending the players Mr. Comiskey informed the players if they were guilty they would be banished from organized baseball for the rest of their lives. B. 9/28." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in red ink, is the phrase, "LAST TIME USED OCT 26 1931." Pasted on the reverse (not shown) is a clipping of a newspaper article that discusses Comiskey's role in the Black Sox Scandal and his decision to expelled some of his players. Dates from 1920 are also written.
