Frank Chance Portrait photograph
Datecirca 1923
DescriptionA black-and-white half-length portrait photograph of Frank Chance. Chance, shown from the waist up, wears a three piece suit and tie. Sitting, Chance rests both his left and right hand on the desktop in front of him. In his right he holds a piece of paper, and his left, a cigarette. Several other papers and a newspaper clipping are visible in front of Chance. Facing the camera, smiling, Chance looks forward, establishing eye contact. Pasted on the reverse, a caption, typed in black ink, reads, "OLD FAVORITE RETURNS TO CHICAGO. CH 42527-Here is Frank Chance back on the job in Chicago , where he made his reputation as manager of the Cubs.He returns this time to manage the White Sox and President Comiskey believes he will bring the pennant of the American League back to the South Side park." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in black ink, is the phrase, "RECEIVED DEC 12 1923." Based on the career of Chance, this image was taken at the end of the 1923 season, when he accepted the new position as manager of the Chicago White Sox.
