Mel Ott with Group photograph

Dateprobably 1947
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of a group of New York Giants teammates. From left to right are Larry Jansen, Mel Ott, Gary Gearhart and Bobby Thomson. The four gentlemen are captured squatting down in front of a dugout at the Polo Grounds in New York City with large smiles on their faces. Jansen and Ott are looking towards Gearhart and Thomson and vice-versa. The four gentlemen are dressed in New York Giants home uniforms. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "Manager Mel Ott (second from left), of the New York Giants, talks things over with three new members of the Giants roster who have been slated as regulars for the 1947 season which opens April 15. With Ott are Larry Jansen, pitcher, of Forest Grove Ore. (left); who came up from the San Francisco Seals; Lloyd Gearhart (second from right), outfielder, formerly with Atlanta, whose home is New Lebanon, O.; and Bob Thomson, (right), an infielder, formerly with Jersey City, whose home is in Staten Island." Based on the newspaper clipping, this photograph was probably taken in 1947.
