Honus Wagner photograph

Date1933 March 25
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Honus Wagner wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates home uniform standing with his left hand rested against his face and his left leg bent up on top of the half wall. Two unidentified players are seated next to Wagner wearing Pittsburgh Pirates uniforms. An unidentified gentleman stands on the other side of Wagner behind the fence. The caption (not shown) on the back of the photograph states, "A closeup of the Pirates in front of their dugout when Bill Terry poked a homer over the fence at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, and the Giants took their second straight from Pittsburgh, 8-to-3. That great big smile at right belongs to Honus Wagner, old-timer major league star and now Pirates coach. Other bucs are shown cheering at left. Slow music, professor. 3/25/33." A clipping of this published image with the caption (not shown), ."..And why shouldn't Mr. Wagner be dismayed? The old-time Pittsburgh hero and present coach assumes a mournful mien as he watches Bill Terry clout a home run in the Giants' recent victory over the Pirates at Los Angeles. George Gibson, Pirate pilot, is a fellow mourner," is also pasted on the reverse. Based on the caption, this photograph was taken on March 25, 1933.
