Nellie Fox Action Series photograph

Date1959 September 15
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of four smaller images of Nellie Fox fielding at second base. In the top left photograph, Fox is captured running to grab the ball out of the air in front of him. In the top right corner, Fox is bending down to field a ball. In the bottom left corner, Fox is holding the baseball in his right hand as he prepares to make his throw. In the bottom right corner, Fox is captured off balance after releasing the ball. He is dressed in a Chicago White Sox road uniform. The caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Retrieving the one that got away. Nellie Fox, diminutive second baseman for the Chicago White Sox, comes up with one of his sparkling plays as he retrieves hot grounder to retire a Yankee batter at Yankee Stadium, New York, Sept. 15. The fifth-inning play started when shortstop Tony Kubek bounced to Fox. Ball bounced out of Nellie's glove, but he made chase, recovered and made quick throw to first baseman Ted Kluszewski for the out. Chisox won 4-3." Based on the caption and Fox's uniform, this photograph was taken on September 15, 1959.
