Murad cigarette box

DescriptionRectangular maroon cardboard box with associated lid. Label on top of the lid shows an Egyptian-inspired scene with "Murad," "Turkish Cigarettes," and "S. Anargyros / A Corporation" in black and red lettering. This top label extends down over the left and right sides of the lid and also onto a small portion of the bottom of the box. There is information on the factory that produced the cigarettes on the left side of the lid and a warning notice on the right side of the lid. Interior underside of the top lid has black and red lettering reading "Murad / Turkish Cigarettes / Are Made Especially For The Discriminating And Experienced / Smoker Of High Grade / Turkish Cigarettes / The Blending Is Exceptional." Bottom of the box has the remnants of a blue tax revenue stamp reading "Cigarettes / Act of Aug. 5, 1909 / U.S. Int Rev."

Bio/Historical NoteEmpty Murad cigarette box. In the early 1900s, tobacco companies produced sports cards, especially baseball cards, as a way of promoting their brands.
