Bio/Historical NoteShoes worn by Eddy Alvarez during his first few major league games in 2020, including his big league debut in Game 1 of the Marlins' doubleheader at the Orioles on August 5, 2020. A 30-year-old rookie, the Miami-born Alvarez won an Olympic silver medal in the 5,000-meter relay in speed skating with Team USA at the Sochi Olympics in 2014. In appearing for his hometown Marlins, he became the first Winter Olympics medalist to play in the major leagues.
