Both gentlemen are dressed in suits. Mack has a large smile on his face and holds a scroll in his left hand. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "Official Honor New York: Mayor William O'Dwyer, a baseball fan himself, presents a certificate of distinguished and exceptional public service to Connie Mack, 86-year-old owner-manager of the Philadelphia A's. The city hall ceremony followed a parade up Broadway in honor of baseball's 'indestructible old man.'8-19-49" Based on the included caption this photograph was taken on August 19, 1949.
