DescriptionA two-page handwritten letter from William "Billy" Earle to the Baseball Hall of Fame, May 3, 1938. The letter is written on "Florence Home" letterhead, which has an illustration of the grounds, trustee names on each side, and the address and telephone number below. The letter is addressed to "Gentlemen" and Earle writes to see if they would like his watch when he passes on. He goes on to give a brief recap of some career hightlights such as catching for Al Spalding on the World Tour of 1888-1889, the various teams he played for, and his time spent managing and teaching taught in Cuba. The Cuban directors gave him a bouquet and this watch when they won the last game and pennant. It is inscribed with the date, line score, team name. It is signed "Wm M. Earle" and has a postscript that states "it is a fine gold watch made in France." The versos (not shown) are blank.
