DescriptionA black-and-white half-length portrait photograph of Fred Clarke. Clarke, shown from the waist up, wears a Pittsburgh Pirates jersey and baseball cap. Leaning forward, Clarke turns his head to his right, to establish eye contact with the camera. In the bottom center of the photograph is a white label, with the subject's name typed in black ink, that reads, "Fred C. Clarke." Based on the specific style of uniform worn by Clarke, this image was captured in 1912, the sole year Pittsburgh wore jerseys that read, "PIRATES," vertically along the button line.
