DescriptionA black-and-white portrait photograph of Fred Clarke. Clarke, wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates jersey and baseball cap is shown from the neck up. Facing the camera, turning his head slightly to his left, Clarke directs his gaze to a point to the right of the camera. Based on the close cropping, this image was extracted from a larger, more complete photograph. Below the image (not shown) is the subject's last name, "CLARKE," in typed white letters. Each letter has been individually cut and pasted to the backing of the photograph. Based on the specific design of the jersey worn by Clarke, this image was captured in 1910 or 1911, the period during which Pittsburgh wore solid color uniforms with a blue collar and button line.
