Why Wait for Pictures? cartoon

Date1942
DescriptionA cartoon by Bob Coyne titled, "Why Wait for Pictures?." The cartoon subtitle in the left corner reads, "Here's How Private Ted Williams Will Look Batting for Uncle Sam!" The cartoon is foreshadowing Private Ted Williams as a soldier by making fun of some of the experiences he might face once in the military. The cartoon parodies his large size by comparing him to a small military tent. It pokes fun at the salary as Williams says, "Say General, you ain't serious about that thirty bucks a month-whuddya t'ink I am a semi-pro!" The cartoon also shows an image of Williams using a gun as a bat. At the bottom right corner of the cartoon, a note from the donor reads, "Sir: On October 26th, my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the Hall of Fame. Then and there, we decided to donate this original Bob Coyne Drawing. (1942) Donald H. Clancy."
