Lefty Grove and Joe Cronin photograph

Datepossibly 1938
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Lefty Grove, left, and Joe Cronin, right, captured in three-quarter profile standing next to one another. Grove has a large smile on his face. Cronin has his right arm around Grove's shoulders and is holding Grove's left arm in his hand. Both Grove and Cronin are dressed in Boston Red Sox road uniforms. An unidentified stadium is visible in the background and several fans are seated in the stadium. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Bob Grove (left), veteran southpaw of the Boston Red Sox is smiling again. An arm ailment which forced him out of action has disappeared and Manager Joe Cronin (right) has nominated Bob to face the Indians today in Cleveland." Based on Grove and Cronin's uniforms, their time with the Red Sox, and a date stamped on the reverse (also not shown), this photograph was probably taken in 1938.
