DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Charlie Gehringer, right, and Red Rolfe, left captured having a discussion in the dugout at Yankee Stadium prior to the start of the Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees game on August 2, 1951. Gehringer, dressed in a suit, is looking of into the distance and has his left hand folded over his right wrist. Rolfe has his right hand on the ledge of the dugout as he talks to Gehringer. Rolfe is dressed in the Detroit Tigers road uniform. Written on the front of the photograph is "Gehringer" with an arrow pointing down to him. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Baseball great Charley Gehringer (left), new general manager of the Detroit Tigers, chats with Red Rolfe in the dugout of Yankee Stadium, Aug. 2, before the game with the Yankees. Gehringer, whose hitting and flawless fielding at the keystone sack for Detroit earned him the name of 'Mechanical Man,' and a niche in baseball's Hall of Fame, returns to the game in the front office post after having stated two years ago that he was leaving 'once and for all.' The same newspaper clipping was attached to the back of the photograph a second time. Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on August 2, 1951 when the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees 6 to 0.
