DescriptionA black-and-white, full length, photograph of Jack Coombs, manager of the Philadelphia Athletics, and John McGraw, manager of the New York Yankees captured shaking hands before the start of a game at the Polo Grounds on May 2, 1919 where the Giants beat the Athletics 14-2. Coombs is dressed in the Philadelphia Athletics road uniform, whereas McGraw is dressed in the New York Giants home uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and reads, "Manager Jack Coombs and Manager John J. McGraw wishing the other luck before the opening game of the Giant's season at the Polo Grounds. The Giants beat Philadelphia 14 to 2." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on May 2, 1919.
