Nap Lajoie Hitting photograph

Date1903 or 1904
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Napoleon "Nap" Lajoie swinging a baseball bat. Lajoie swings the bat from a right-handed stance from the first-base foul territory. Lajoie stands with his weight on his front left foot and stands on the tip-toe on his back-right foot. Lajoie extends the bat in front of his body showing that he is getting ready to assume his batting stance. Lajoie's hands choke-up about two inches from the bat handle. Based on the Cleveland Naps away uniform details, this photograph was taken in 1903 or 1904. The field is unidentified. On the reverse (not shown), there is a caption that states, "NAPOLEON (NAP) LAJOIE,SHOWN DURING HIS PLAYING DAYS IN THE EARLY PART OF THE CENTURY, DIED FEB. 7 IN DAYTONA BEACH, FLA., HOSPITAL AT THE AGE OF 82.
