Nap Lajoie Poses with Bat photograph

Date1912 June 04
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Napoleon "Nap" Lajoie posing with a baseball bat in a full-length portrait. Lajoie stands in a right-handed batting stance with his hands choked-up several inches. Lajoie looks into the camera with a small smile. Lajoie wears a home Cleveland Naps uniform, based on the uniform details, this photograph was taken in 1912. Lajoie's body is framed by a temporary, horseshoe-shaped structure in foul territory near the first-base side grandstand. On the bottom of the horseshoe-shaped structure is a floral arrangement that spells in dark lettering, "JUNE 4 1902 JUNE 4 1912." This indicates that this photograph was taken on the ten-year anniversary of Lajoie playing for the Cleveland Naps. This date indicates that this photograph was taken at League Park in Cleveland, Ohio as the Naps played the Boston Red Sox at this location on this date.
