Masanori Murakami glove

Date1964-1965

DescriptionBrown leather right-handed glove with four finger stalls and a thumb stall. Forefinger stall and thumb stalls are connected with leather laces by a vertical piece of leather as webbing. Palm side of the glove "Rawlings" stamped on the heel area. Leather laces line the top edge of the webbing, the palm side pinky stall, the palm side thumb stall and the palm side heel area. Back side of the webbing is stamped "Big Trapeze." Back side of the thumb stall is stamped "Edge-U-Cated" with patent information. "10" is handwritten in black ink at the base of the thumb stall. There are Japanese characters handwritten in black ink on the left side of the wrist strap. There is an opening at the base of the finger stalls on the back side of the glove. Wrist strap fastens with a knotted leather lace. There is a manufacturer label on the wrist strap.

Bio/Historical NoteGlove used by San Francisco Giants pitcher Masanori Murakami during the 1964 and 1965 seasons. Murakami was the first Japanese-born player to play for a Major League team.
