Idelson, left, angling his body in towards Gwynn, holds waist height in his right hand, the end cap of Gwynn's baseball bat that he used to earn his 3,000th hit. Turning his head to his left, Idelson looks down to the bat. Gwynn, center, wears a San Diego Padres alternate uniform. Gwynn holds the barrel of the same bat in his left hand, waist height, in front of his body, while also holding a microphone in his right hand, resting it against his chest. Facing the camera, Gwynn looks forward and down at the bat. Petroskey, right, holds the head of the bat with his right hand. In his left hand, Petroskey holds the cleats and helmet worn by Gwynn when he broke 3,000, waist height. Smiling, Petroskey turns his head to his right, to look across at Idelson. The notation, "#3000," written in black, is visible on the bat. Behind this group several people sitting in the infield are visible. An occupied stadium can also be seen in the distance. Based on the notation present on the bat held by all three men, this image was taken after August 6, 1999, the day Gwynn completed his 3,000th hit.
