Idelson, left, holds the uniforms pants worn by Gwynn when he earned his 3,000th hit, under his left arm, while holding his bat, that he used to break this record, with both hands. Placing his right hand on the grip of the bat, and his left on the barrel, Idelson holds the bat across his body, parallel to the ground. Looking forward, Idelson directs his gaze to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. Gwynn, center, wearing a San Diego Padres alternate uniform, stands with both hands on each hip, looking down and to his left. Petroskey, right, stands behind a lectern with the San Diego Padres team name and 'swinging friar' alternate logo on the front. While speaking, Petroskey holds a microphone in his right hand, chest height, and holds in his left, Gwynn's cleats and his helmet also from August 06, 1999.. Petroskey looks to his right, directing his gaze to a point above the camera. Behind this group several people sitting in the infield are visible. An occupied stadium can also be seen in the distance. Based on the nature of this ceremony, this image was taken after August 6, 1999, the day Gwynn completed his 3,000th hit.
