Varitek is in the left handed batter's box and wearing a Boston Red Sox home uniform. His body is facing the camera and he is looking over his front (right) shoulder towards the pitcher's mound. With both hands he is holding a baseball bat that is hovering over his back (left) shoulder. In the background is an unidentified member of the Boston Red Sox and an almost full crowd in the stands. The photograph is taken from the third base side of the field. The back of the image (not shown) is blank.
