Moe Berg cigarette case

DescriptionRectangular silver cigarette case with inscribed landscape scene with a figure on the front and extending around the back side. Left edge had a hinge and right side has a button to push to open the case. Interior of the case again has a landscape scene with a figure extending on both sides. Right side interior has a silver bar extending the width of the case. Inscribed on the right side interior is "Presented to Morris Berg / [Japanese lettering] / from Meiji Univ."
Bio/Historical NoteIn 1932, journeyman catcher Moe Berg joined Lefty O'Doul and future Hall of Fame pitcher Ted Lyons in a tour of Japan, where they instructed ballplayers at six premier universities. Representatives of the Meiji University baseball team presented Moe Berg with this silver cigarette case as a memento of his first trip to Japan.
