DescriptionNatural stain wooden bat, 31 ounces, with "Hillerich & Bradsby / 125 / Louisville Slugger / Powerized" in the center of the barrel and "Genuine / Billy Williams (facsimile signature) / Louisville Slugger" near the end of the barrel. "S2 " is imprinted on the knob end. There are nine silver nails in the handle/taper portion of the bat.
Bio/Historical NoteBat used by Billy Williams of the Chicago Cubs to record eight hits in eight at-bats at Wrigley Field against the Houston Astros on July 11, 1972. The Astros defeated the Cubs 6-5. During a visit to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 2012, Williams was asked about the nails in the handle and he stated that he put them there because he did not want the bat to split.
