DescriptionShin guards consisting of six separate red plastic pieces joined together with nylon straps and padded vinyl inserts. All, except the two small pieces protecting the foot, have D-rings and black nylon straps. At top are two pieces which protect the top of the knee. These have metal rivets attaching the underside padding. The pieces are connected with black nylon straps. Silver decal lettering, "All-Star," and MLB Authentication hologram stickers are on the second piece. Larger knee cap piece is scratched and is hinged to leg piece with nylon and vinyl inserts. Printed in white on the red vinyl is "LG22WPRO **** Pat. No. 6,964,062 B1 D501,690." Long leg piece is vented, has extended under-padding and D-rings with black nylon straps. The lower two pieces are attached with red nylon padded mesh and black leather straps. They provide protection for the top of the foot and toes. Underside has padding covered with red nylon mesh. Top of leg piece has white label, "Ultra Cool Venting System."
Bio/Historical NoteCatcher's shin guards worn by Jason Varitek of the Boston Red Sox on May 19, 2008 when pitcher Jon Lester threw a no-hitter. With this game, Varitek became the first catcher to catch four no-hitters in his career.
