Yankee Stadium photograph

Date1951
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of a group of unidentified New York Yankees players warming up on the field at Yankee Stadium, taken in 1951. The photograph was taken from the home dugout. Tommy Henrich, a Yankees coach wearing #15, appears to be in the process of hitting ground balls to unseen fielders. An unidentified Yankees pitcher stands on the pitcher's mound. Near home plate, an unidentified player (facing away, wearing number forty four), probably Red Ruffing, stands with an unidentified man in street clothes (facing away). Part of the seating at Yankee Stadium is visible in the background. The date of the negative was determined by the American League 50th anniversary patch on Henrich's sleeve. The letters "OST" in "BOSTON" are visible on the flag atop the Stadium's roof indicating that the photograph was taken sometime between July 7th and August 3rd, the period of time that the Red Sox were in first and second place. Further research done by a Yankees curator, suggest it may have been taken between July 24-26, 1951, against the Cleveland Indians, the only visiting team during that time span to wear solid colored socks.
