DescriptionA black-and-white photograph from the first game of the 1955 World Series. The image caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "First game of 1955 World Series, Yankee Stadium. Martin to Rizzuto gets Gillium at 2nd base, as the 1st part of a D.P. [double play] on Reeses' grounder in the 4th inning...[Jim Gilliam fo]rced at second in first half of Yankee double play in fourth inning as Phil Rizzuto throws shortstop's relay caught Pee Wee Reese, who had grounded sharply to Billy Martin. Umpire." The image captures Rizzuto throwing the ball as Gilliam slides into second and the umpire calls the out.
