Bob Feller, Sam Chapman, and Luke Easter photograph

Date1951 July 01
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Bob Feller with teammates Luke Easter and Sam Chapman. Feller, shown from the waist up, stands in between his two teammates wearing a Cleveland Indians home uniform. Feller faces front, towards the camera, but his head is turned to his right to smile at Chapman. Feller's hands are extended in front holding with his right hand the barrel of the bat held by Chapman and in his left the barrel of the bat held by Easter. Based on the background and the included caption, this photo was shot in the locker room after the July 1, 1951 home game. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in black ink, is a clipping of the original newspaper caption that reads, "BOB NOTCHES THIRD: Happy Bob Feller (center), of Indians, accepts congratulations from teammates, Sam Chapman (left) and Luke Easter, after hurling his third no-hit game in majors. He set back the Tigers in the first of a twin bill yester-day at Cleveland, 2 to 1." Stamped on the reverse (not shown) in red ink is the date "JUL 2 1951," the publication date of this image.
