Bob Feller with Father photograph

Date1936 October 10
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Bob Feller with his father William Andrew Feller. Bob Feller is shown wearing a Cleveland Indians road uniform. Feller is seated besides his father and both men are shown from the waist up. Feller sits with his left arm on his left knee with his right arm around his father's shoulders. Feller looks down at the ground while his father appears to be talking. Feller's father is wearing a suit and sits with his hands clasped in front of his body. His head and body are turned slightly to the left, in the direction of his son. Due to the relaxed posture of both subjects and their lack of eye contact with the camera it is possible that they were unaware of the presence of the photographer. Based on the shadows present within the image and the action of the woman in the background, shielding her eyes from the sun, this photo was taken outdoors. Pasted on the reverse (not shown) is a caption, typed in purple ink that reads, "C306348 POPULAR FELLER BOB FELLER, 17-YEAR-OLD HIGH SCHOOL BOY OF VAN METER, K IA., SHOWN ABOVE AT HOME WITH HIS FATHER BILL FELLER, PLAYED WITH THE CLEVELAND INDIANS THIS SUMMER AND PROVED TO BE SUCH AN EXCEPTIONAL PITCHER, THAT JUDGE LANDIS HAS BEEN CALLED TO DECIDE WHETHER HE IS A FREE AGENT, THE PROPERTY OF DES MOINES CLUB OF THE WESTERN LAST SEPT. 13, THE BOY STRUCK OUT 17 PHILADELPHIA ATHLETICS FOR A NEW AMERICAN LEAGUE RECORD. 10/10/36."
