DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Johnny Evers as he listens to the 1942 World Series over the radio. Caption on reverse (not shown) reads, "A Listener--With Divided Loyalties. Johnny Evers, a baseball immortal as pivot of the Chicago Cubs' Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance double play combination, heard the World Series opener in his Albany home, Sept. 30, while convalescing from a recent stroke. Johnny, who played in four World Series, sent a telegram of encouragement to manager Joe McCarthy of the Yankees, and old pal, but is 'afraid St. Louis will win'."
