DescriptionA black-and-white half-length portrait photograph of Jimmie Foxx batting. Foxx, shown from the waist up, wears a Philadelphia Athletics uniform. Depicted in his follow through position, Foxx rotates his upper body to his left. In gripping the bat, placing his right hand over left, Foxx rests the bat on his right shoulder, angled backwards. Foxx turns his head to his right, looking at a point in the distance and to the left of the camera. Foxx's uniform has been completely painted over and parts of his uniform are heavily outlined. Several facial features have also been edited to appear more legible. The letter 'x' seen across his uniform is not original to the image and exists as a further modification made for publication. The close cropping of this image indicates that it was extracted from a larger, more complete photograph. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Foxx, this image dates from 1928, when Philadelphia retired the elephant logo, to 1935, Foxx's final year with the team.
