Jimmie Foxx Cropped photograph
Dateprobably 1932
DescriptionA black-and-white cropped photograph of Jimmie Foxx in uniform. This image, featuring his torso and grip, shows Foxx from the neck down, and the hips up. Wearing a Philadelphia Athletics road uniform, Foxx holds a baseball bat in front of his body, chest height. Placing right hand over left on the grip of the bat, Foxx angles the bat to his right, resting it against his shoulder. Visible in the bottom center of the photograph, handwritten on the surface in black, is a series of numbers that read, "4 X 1 5/8." The set of perpendicular lines visible on the photograph, and system of notation that resembles the letter "K," both indicate where this image is to be cropped upon publication. Sections of the background have been edited as well. The 'A' logo on the Foxx's jersey has been removed and portions of Foxx's hands and uniform have been heavily outlined, to appear more legible. Based on these modifications, it is only possible to know the creation date of this image from the information stamped on the reverse. On the reverse (not shown), stamped in black ink, are several dates as follows, "LAST TIME USED JUL 12 1932," "LAST TIME USED JUN 30 1936 EDITION 2," and "LAST TIME USED JUL 2 1938 EDITION 2." A caption pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in purple ink, reads, "(...)KING OF BIG LEAGUES (...) IN A GAME IN CLEVELAND ON JUNE (...)HILADELPHIA ATHLETICS FIRST BASE-(...) (...)HE SEASON TO 33, LEADING BASE (...) PHOTO SHOWS THE NEW HOME RUN (...) BAT WHICH BLASTS THE BALL (....) (...)GE NUMBER OF FOXX'S HOMERS.
