DescriptionA black-and-white full-length photograph of Jimmie Foxx crouching down on the golf course, to line up his shot. Foxx, facing the camera, wears dress shoes, dress pants, and a short sleeve dress shirt. Resting his left hand on his left knee, Foxx extends his right arm out in front of his body, holding onto the end of his golf club. Visible in the foreground of the image is his golf ball. Captured on the golf course, a stand of trees can be seen in the background. Looking forward, Foxx establishes eye contact with the camera. Several facial features and portions of Foxx's clothing have been enhanced to appear more legible upon publication. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in purple ink, is a caption that reads, "(...) ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.-- WHO SAID: "UNEASY LIES THE HEAD THAT WEARS THE CROWN"; HERE'S JIMMY FOXX, AMERICAN LEAGUE HOME RUN KING, LINING UP A LIE, ON ONE OF HIS TWO GOLF COURSES IN ST. PETERSBURG. LOLLING ABOUT IN THE SUN, JIMMY HAS FULLY RECOVERED FROM AN APPENDECTOMY PERFORMED LATE IN THE BASEBALL SEASON, AND IS LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON AS THE BOSTON RED SOX FIRST-SACKER. 12/23/39." Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in red and black ink respectively, are the phrases, "LAST TIME USED DEC 26 1939 EDITION 5," and "LAST TIME USED MAY 11 1940 EDITION 2."
