DescriptionA back-and-white full-length action photograph of Jimmie Foxx batting. Foxx, shown from the rear, identifiable by the number 3 on the back of his jersey, wears a Boston Red Sox uniform. Depicted in his follow through position, Foxx stands on his front left leg, with his right leg crossed behind, with feet apart. In gripping the bat, Foxx places right hand over left, holding the bat on his left side shoulder height, angled backwards. Foxx looks forward, toward the group of spectators. Based on the scale of this group and the included background, this image was captured at an amateur ball field rather than a professional stadium. Visible in the upper left corner of the image, handwritten on the surface in black, are the numbers, "24," and "4 1/8." Portions of Foxx's uniform have been outlined to appear more legible for publication and are not original to the image. Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in red and blue ink, respectively, are the phrases, "RECEIVED OCT 29 1938," and "PHOTO BY WM. C. GREENE."
