DescriptionA black-and-white full-length photograph of Sandy Koufax jumping for joy on the pitcher's mound. His arms are raised over his head. There are two captions on the reverse. The first caption (not shown) reads, "Los Angeles, Oct. 6 - Sandy - The Winner - Winning pitcher Sandy Koufax of the Los Angeles Dodgers lets out a big war whoop in Los Angeles today after pitching the Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees in the fourth and final game of the 1963 World Series. Sandy accounted for two of the victories as the Dodgers beat the Yanks four straight games." The second caption (not shown) reads, "But There's Still Joy in Mudville. by Warren Berry, Wall Street Correspondent. At 5:51-plain old Eastern time-an independent business man wearing the blue suit of the major league umpire, raised his right arm in Los Angeles and the slap was felt back here in New York. It reverberated through the quiet canyons of Wall Street and up and down the honky tonk retailing colossus of Times Square. Let others worry about the setback to the mental health of the city. New York is the money town. Last night economists were trying to weigh the effect of Black Sunday. They reasoned this way: Local pride means putting your money where your mouth is. When you get belted in the mouth, what effect does this have on the stability of the dollars, the sanctity of the Federal Reserve gold hoard of the outlook for gross national product." According to a label on the reverse, this photograph was taken on October 6, 1963.
