Sandy Koufax After No-Hitter photograph

Date1963 May 12
DescriptionA black-and-white, head-and-shoulders photograph of Sandy Koufax. He is holding up a baseball in his left hand and smiling. The ball has "#2 No Hit" written on it. The caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Sandy Koufax smiles as he grasps a baseball symbolizing his second no-hitter in less than a year. He pitched his first no-hitter against the Mets on June 30, 1962. The 27-year-old left-hander barely missed a perfect game, retiring 22 men until he walked Ed Bailey in the eighth and Willie McCovey (both of the San Francisco Giants) in the ninth. Dodgers won the ballgame 8-0. 5/12/1963." Another caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Philadelphia. Sandy Koufax of the Los Angeles Dodgers pitched the third no-hitter of his major league career last night, allowing only one walk in a 3-0 victory over Philadelphia as he tied Bob Feller's modern no-hit record. Koufax, the 28-year-old left-handed fireballer, faced the minimum 27 batters. Richie Allen was the lone baserunner, walking on a 3-2 pitch in the fourth. But he was thrown out stealing."
