Koufax is pictured from the waist up, and is pointing at the giant baseball painted on the side of the Dodgers' plane. The caption at the bottom of the photograph reads, "Los Angeles, Sept. 30--Heading for that big assignment--Pitcher Sandy Koufax gags it up as he poses with the big baseball painted on the side of the Los Angeles Dodgers' plane, as the National League champs left for New York today for the World Series with the New York Yankees. Sandy has a slight cold, but club spokesmen said it is not expected to have any effect on his series pitching assignments. Sandy is slated to open the series on Wednesday." According to the caption, this photograph was taken on September 30, 1963.
