Sandy Koufax, Maury Wills, and Willie Davis Group photograph
Date1965 October 11
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph, from left to right, of Maury Wills, Sandy Koufax, and Willie Davis captured standing arm in arm as they celebrate the LA Dodgers third win against the Minnesota Twins on October 11, 1965 following game five of the World Series. Wills is holding up a baseball in his right hand while looking at Davis. Koufax has a large grin on his face. Davis is looking down at the baseball with a smile. All three gentlemen are dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers home uniform. In the background is a sign that says "Go Dodgers." A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "Heroes of the Dodgers third straight win over the Minnesota Twins to give them a 3-2 lead in the series are Maury Wills (L), whose 4 hits, 2 doubles, and 2 runs scored led the attack, Sandy Koufax who scored a 4-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and Willie Davis who equaled a World Series record with 3 stolen bases." A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "...this year and at the close of the season I worked with two days rest twice in 10 days.' Sandy will be 30 in December but he doesn't feel it's old age. It's just the thin Dodger pitching staff and the tough National League and this year he pitched the most innings of his career. 'There's going to be a definite tendency for me to tire with this club,' he explained looking ahead. 'We only had three guys to start and Don and I pitched over 300 innings and Claude was real close...finish. We all started with two days rest and pitched some relief. I assure you I had better stuff in July than October.' Koufax isn't complaining..." A caption written on the back of the photograph states, "Baseball...National League...Los Angeles...1965." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on October 11, 1965 after the LA Dodgers beat the Minnesota Twins.
