Sandy Koufax Three Pitching photographs
Date1955
DescriptionThree black-and-white photographs of Sandy Koufax warming up in a Brooklyn Dodgers uniform at Ebbets Field, 1955. Koufax is standing on pitchers mound in the bullpen, in the first picture he has his arms up and his glove in front of his face as he rocks back in his pitching motion. In the second photograph Koufax has his left foot on the pitching rubber and his right left straight out to the side. In the third picture Koufax still has his pitching arm behind him with the ball in hand with his left foot just inches from the ground in front of him and his face is obscured by his right arm being in the air. The caption on the back reads, "FIRST VICTORY IN SECOND START NEW YOUR: Brooklyn Bonus baby Sandy Koufax shows the pitching form he used in hurling a two-hitter to gain his first major league victory in his second start. The 19-year-old southpaw fanned 14 batter and walked only five men in leading the Dodgers to a 7-0 win over the Cincinnati Redlegs last weekend. His 14-strikeouts set a 1955 record for National League pitchers. Koufax, a native of Brooklyn, was signed for $20,000 in 1954 when he was a student at the University of Cincinnati.
