Sandy Koufax photograph

Date1964 June 05
DescriptionA black-and-white, head and shoulder, photograph of Sandy Koufax captured holding up his cup of coffee. Koufax has a small smile on his face. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "Sandy Koufax, Los Angeles Dodgers' super star, enjoys cup of coffee at the Hotel Roosevelt here 6/5. Koufax pitched his third no-hitter 6/4 against the Philadelphia Phillies and luckily (for the New York Mets) doesn't expect to see action in New York during the weekend series." A second newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "At 30, in his 12th year with the Dodgers, Sanford Koufax, owner of baseball's one-season strikeout record, four no-hit games and the only left arm ever rented for $120,000 a year, was late. Koufax almost didn't get to any ballpark at all in 1966 and there are memos to management in desk drawers at Dodger Stadium from general manager Buzzy Bavasi to prove it." A third newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Sandy Koufax, Los Angeles Dodgers' super star, enjoys cup of coffee at the Hotel Roosevelt here June 5. Koufax pitched his third no-hitter June 4th against the Philadelphia Phillies and luckily (for the New York Mets) doesn't expect to see action in New York during the weekend series." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on June 5, 1964.
