DescriptionA black-and-white, head-and-shoulders photograph of Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax. Koufax is smiling at the camera and holding up a ball with "#2 no-hit" written on it. The caption at the bottom of the photograph reads, "5/12/63 Los Angeles: Dodger pitcher Sandy Koufax holds the ball that tells the story.. his second no-hitter. Koufax pitched the no-hitter against the league leading San Francisco Giants 5/11. Using fast balls and curves he threw 112 pitches for the new entry in the National League record book." The caption on the reverse (not shown) reads, "Sandy Deals, Giants Fold, Boss...Los Angeles. Courtesy of the San Francisco Giants, of all people, Sandy Koufax will receive a videotape of that no-hitter he pitched at Dodger Stadium Saturday night, his second no-hitter in less than a year. Until Floyd Patterson sends Sonny Liston an autographs picture of himself being knocked out by Liston this may stand as the classic example of giving when it hurts. And the 27-year-old Los Angeles lefthander is assured a more tangible reward, too. Dodger president Walter O'Malley gave Koufax a raise last season after Sandy pitched his first no-hitter, against the New York Mets here of June 30. O'Malley, who pays decent salaries but is not ranked among the top 10 spenders of the 20th Century, announced Saturday night that he'll give Sandy another raise. The contract Sandy signed earlier..." According to the caption, this photograph was taken on May 11, 1963.
