DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of John McGraw captured in profile completing his swing at bat during spring training in Sarasota, Florida where two unidentified Giants team members watch from behind the batting cage. Manager of the Giants, McGraw has a serious expression and is holding the baseball bat out in his right hand as his feet kick up dirt in the batter's box. McGraw is dressed in the New York Giants road uniform. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) reads, "...in the baseball life of John McGraw..." An additional newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) reads, "John J. McGraw manager of the team taking the bat in hand, himself just to show some of the emerald green rookies how to swat the pellets." Based on the newspaper clipping and McGraw's uniform this photograph was taken between 1926 and 1927.
