George Wright trophy bat

DescriptionDark brown stained wooden bat with flattened barrel end tip. Knob end has an inscribed circular design around a carved gouge in the center. Taper has a silver piece nailed into the wood, encircling the entire perimeter of the bat. Directly to the right of this piece, towards the knob end, are two rectangular silver placards. First smaller placard reads "Score of Western Trip / Games 10, Runs 92, Hands Lost 12" with a zig-zag design around the edge, nailed in with four nails. Second larger placard reads "Awarded to Geo. Wright / by the / National B.B.C. / of Washington D.C. / For Best General play during their tour West / July 1867," nailed in with six nails.
Bio/Historical NoteIn July 1867, Washington's National Base Ball Club toured the Midwest for three weeks. The club posted a 9-1 record as future Hall of Famer George Wright hit 15 home runs, earning this trophy bat for his stellar play.
