Babe McCarthy bracelet

Date1942 May 19
DescriptionGold bracelet comprised of a large center medallion, two smaller oval-shaped medallions on either side, four hinged triangular pieces and two small medallions. On one end is a flattened bit that inserts into a slot on the opposite end to fasten. In addition, there is a small loop on one of the end medallions and a thin gold chain and clasp on the opposite end medallion so that, once clasped, the closure acts as a second fail-safe fastener. Each medallion consist of an oval-shaped setting with a clear gem set within a diamond-shaped home plate with "New York Yankees / World Champions" in gold lettering around the perimeter. The center medallion is larger in that it has a laurel wreath around the edge and two crossed bats in the background. Each medallion is connected to the rest by hooks across the upper and lower portions. Hinged triangular pieces show depictions of an eagle with outstretched wings and a shield. The two larger of these pieces have "New York" across the top of the eagle while one has "1937" across the bottom and the other has "1938" across the bottom. The two smaller triangular pieces only have years, one having "1939" and the other having "1941." Two of the medallions have engraving on the back sides including "May 19, 1942 / From Joe" and "To My / Loving Wife / Babe McCarthy."
Bio/Historical NoteLongtime Yankees manager Joe McCarthy had his championship jewelry fashioned into this bracelet for his wife, Elizabeth, including the diamonds from his seven World Series rings.
