Jesse Haines Fortieth Birthday trophy

DescriptionSterling silver trophy mounted atop a black rectangular metal base. There are two silver placards on the front, one reading "Jesse Joseph Haines / A Token of Esteem Commemorating His / Fortieth Birthday Anniversary / Twenty-Two Years in Baseball - Fourteen Years With The Cardinals / July 22nd 1933 / From The Cardinal Ball Players" in raised lettering and the lower placard lists the last names of his teammates in raised lettering. Both placards are attached to the base with two screws, one on each side. On top of the black metal base is a silver plate with two upright fluted pillars and an arch at the very top having two eagles with outstretched wings facing outwards. Between the pillars is a small figure of a ballplayer in uniform. Bottom of the base has green felt and four small pads, one in each corner.

Bio/Historical NoteIn 1933, Cardinals players gave their future Hall of Fame pitcher, Jesse "Pop" Haines, this trophy for his 40th birthday. Haines anchored a Redbird rotation that won five pennants from 1926 to 1934.
