DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Los Angeles Dodgers' pitcher, Sandy Koufax captured following the baseball that a batter hit off of one of his pitches during a game against the St. Louis Cardinals on September 17, 1963. During this game the Dodgers beat the Cardinals 4-0. Koufax has a surprised expression on his face as he has both his hands down by his side. He is dressed in the Los Angeles Dodgers road uniform. Sportsman's Park is visible in the background with baseball fans filling the seats. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the side on the front of the photograph and states, "A rare view of Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Sandy Koufax -- watching a hit go out of the infield, 9/17. Koufax shut out the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 to put Dodgers 3 games ahead in hot pennant race. It was his 24th win, 11th shutout & 20th complete game, accounting for several league and club records. He gave up only 4 hits." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on September 17, 1963.
